Slow Dancing in The Eden Stage: WHYLUCAS at Sundown Festival

If you know WHYLUCAS, you’d know he doesn’t need much to hold down a crowd. Lucas showed up twice at Sundown Festival— and both times, he left his mark!

He started day one at the Utopia Stage strong, effortlessly charming the night away with his band, guitar, and presence. At some point during his performance, someone in the crowd fainted, and he didn’t hesitate to pause his set to make sure the paramedics got to them. It may be a small moment, but it was definitely admirable.

Now, if you think it couldn’t get any better than that, you’re wrong! Things slowed down a little on day two—in the best way, of course. If day one felt like a party, day two was the complete opposite— more grounded. Tucked into a quieter corner of Haw Par Villa, the Eden Stage lived up to its name: a little sanctuary, sort of like a bonfire. Perfect for the intimate set Lucas was about to deliver.

Moments leading up to his set, DJs were hyping a steadily growing crowd— a mix of WHYNOTS and festival wanderers curious to see what his set was all about. And Lucas didn’t waste a second. He joked about not having eaten in four hours, casually dropping a “you’re not supposed to eat before a show”, the kind of offhand honesty that set the tone for what would be a warm, stripped-back and refreshingly unfiltered set.

From there, the evening unfolded with a mix of familiar tunes and surprises. His setlist included tracks like Fall’,Oh, Krissy Baby!’, ‘Lonely People’, and his latest single ‘Tiara’. Lucas also covered John Mayer’s ‘Slow Dancing in a Burning Room’, alongside two unreleased originals.

Between songs, Lucas took the time to express his gratitude, thanking both longtime WHYNOTS and new listeners for showing up and showing love. He had them completely locked in from beginning to end.

Lucas’ vulnerability and authenticity were refreshing. The entire set felt raw and intentional—perfectly thought out. Fans held up banners that said, “Can I be your Tiara?”, an ode to his latest release. He also shared the story behind one of his unreleased songs— reflecting on a past relationship with someone who struggled to accept his love.

Charismatic and completely in tune with his audience, Lucas kept the crowd engaged with heartfelt moments throughout his set—he’s a rising star you’ll want to keep an eye on.

If you missed WHYLUCAS’ set at Sundown Festival, don’t worry—he’s playing at WATERBOMB SINGAPORE on August 30, and tickets are already on sale here
