An Opener That Felt Like Closure: Keenan Te Live At Sundown Festival Singapore

by yasmin

As the sun set and dipped below the skyline, the light drizzle hung in the air at Haw Par Villa, Keenan Te's entrance on the Utopia Stage at the Sundown Festival felt almost straight out of the movie—total main character energy!  The Australian Singer-Songwriter immediately drew in the crowd with his warm presence and energetic delivery. It was clear that the audience was in for an electrifying evening.

Keenan’s set last night was supported by his band and some subtle stage effects. He kicked off some of his songs with a down-to-earth and personal introduction, finding common ground with the audience. The crowd interaction between songs didn’t miss a beat. It all really felt more like a conversation than a performance. Pretty sure it was super relatable! That vulnerability and quiet openness, even in a festival setting, was what made his set so personal and compelling.

Keenan treated the crowd to a setlist that included fan-favourite tracks like ‘As Long As You Love Me’, ‘Scars’, ‘Constellations’, and ‘Temporary Love’. He also included two heartfelt covers during his set: LAUV’s ‘I’m So Tired’ and NIKI’s ‘La La Lost You’, the latter of which set against the light drizzle and a haze of smoke from the fog machines, made the atmosphere so heartbreakingly beautiful!

He also surprised the audience by bringing out Sorn midway through the set to perform ‘With Me’, a moment that lit up the audience. Their chemistry was effortless, and it added a spark to an already emotionally resonant performance.

Keenan performed his brand-new single ‘Memories’, which had just dropped earlier that day, giving the crowd an electrifying introduction. Singapore got pretty lucky because we might have just been the first to hear him sing this song live.

Watching it all unfold from the photo pit, it was clear that Keenan wasn’t just performing—he was connecting. One can only imagine what it’s like to be in the crowd in that moment. Truly a dream to capture Keenan's performance last night through the lens, so here’s to hoping we won’t have to wait too long before he’s back on a Singapore stage again!
