Notes from “Crash” with Erika Ever
From early demos to dance floors, erika ever shares the moments that shaped her latest track.For her latest release Crash, Erika Ever takes us behind the scenes of the track’s creation - from an early 2024 beat originally called “Flash”, to a year of sending ideas back and forth between Melbourne and Sydney with Porcelain Boy.
Along the way, producer Fresh Hex joined the track, Crash found its way into Erika Ever’s DJ sets, and a collective of colours, cityscapes, childhood memories and favourite records helped shape the world around the release.
Rather than telling you about it ourselves, we’re handing it over to Erika Ever.
01 / THE FIRST IDEA
From “Flash” to “Crash”
“I had made an early version of the beat in late 2024 that I had called Flash (for some reason that I can’t remember haha), and when I was thinking of people to send it to Porcelain Boy were the first I had in mind”
“I was so stoked that they were keen to jump on it, and between me based in Melbourne and Porcelain Boy based in Sydney, we just sent it back and forth over the course of like a year.”

01 - Ministry of Sound Sessions Six [AU Edition]
“This was my first intro to dance music, and the importance of having fun and silly songs around in not-so fun and silly times.”
02 - that one shade of yellow
“I remember reading in a Total Girl article when I was a kid that this was a bad colour to wear as it would be unappealing or make you look like a nerd or something, and I guess that was the energy I wanted to bring to my music haha.”
03 - feeling like a little ant in a big city
“For the visuals across both my last track, 2 Hours, and Crash, I’ve had this feeling in mind. Isaiah, who shot both, used a lot of high angles on city rooftops etc to try to capture this.”
