Alexander 23 American Boy in Asia: This Review Needed to Be Let Out to The World and I Cannot Keep Bottling It Up

The American Boy in Asia Tour wrapped up just over 5 months ago and we just can’t stop thinking about it. Alexander 23 made his debut headline show in Singapore at The Capitol Theatre, captivating the audience with an intimate, stripped-down session that highlighted his heartfelt vocals and raw storytelling. What was a concert felt more like having an emotional conversation with a friend you haven’t seen in a long while. With its vintage charm, the venue provided a perfect backdrop for the evening.
The night opened with Alexander playfully asking the crowd for a warm welcome, instantly breaking the ice and setting the tone for an engaging and cozy performance. From the first chord of ‘Yours’, it was pretty clear that his ability to convey such raw emotions was unmatched. Stripped off the heavy production, his live arrangements and acoustic set placed his vocals at the forefront, making them the centrepiece of that evening.
Throughout his set, Alexander effortlessly balanced vulnerability with moments of light-hearted humor, peppered with lots of playful banters with his fans. Tracks like ‘Cry Over Boys’, ‘The Hardest Part’ and ‘Everything’s Fine’ struck an emotional chord amongst the audience, resonating deeply with the raw emotion of his performance and vulnerability expressed in his lyrics. The fan project that had been planned for the night added another layer of connection—it was clear Alexander was just as moved by his fans as they were by him.

And, of course, he couldn’t resist playing his yet-to-be-released song ‘American Boy’—the track named after the tour itself. To show off his unwavering musical versatility, Alexander took requests from the audience and delivered a stunning medley, even though he humorously fumbled over the lyrics to a few of his older songs. I must say, the fans did a beautiful job leading into the bridge of ‘Somebody’s Nobody,’ and Alexander seemed genuinely impressed, if I may say so myself.
For a debut headline show in Singapore, Alexander 23 delivered a fun and unforgettable performance that felt so personal. His first foray into the Singapore’s music scene wasn’t just a success - it showed how raw simplicity and heartfelt vulnerability can truly resonate with the audience.
